Creative Cup review

May 29th 2011 was a glum day in Manchester, heavy, rain filled clouds lined the sky; not that this was a problem for the folks lining up for this years Creative Cup.

The Creative Cup is the work of Ian James Cox, a freelance creative from Manchester. Last year he and many others managed to raise £1,900 for Marie Curie Cancer Care, bringing together creative agencies from all over the Northwest to compete in this fund raising event.

2011 saw the return of the Creative Cup to Manchester; again with the hopes of beating last years Charity haul. Bliss’ journey in the Cup started last month, playing friendlies against Push On,Magnetic North and Melbourne Hosting (who also sponsored the event); looking to get sharp for the tournament.

After not winning a game we certainly felt confident about cup success, looking to beat last years tally of 1 draw and no wins. The team was much different from last years, with the loss of enigmatic striker Ian James Cox; Bliss had to rebuild. Starting from the back Bliss brought in Tom “Big Hands” Wilks to play the crucial role of goalkeeper, in front of him Brian Adamski who is often referred to as the next Eric Djemba Djemba. Laurie Peacock, Jon Stutfield, Conor Clafferty and Rich Stutfield took up the midfield area with Chris Scott playing upfront.

Bliss started the tournament well by only losing 3-2 to Amaze, Chris taking and missing a crucial penalty in the dying seconds and some poor goalkeeping from Big Hands gifted Amaze the 3 points.

BLISS continued their losing streak until they locked horns with Flipbook, playing out a hard fought 2-2 draw with some magic at both ends of the pitch. Bliss even had a shout for potential goal of the tournament with Brian hitting the top-left of the upright with a venomous strike from within the Bliss half.

Disaster struck when our top striker Chris suffered an unfortunate injury, at the hands of the boards around the pitch, at a crucial part of the tournament.

Highlights included Scoring 2 past cup winners Made by Shape, Rich with a particular stunning finish and a well worked own goal.
