Plastic pollution is a significant issue, infiltrating the entire planet, and even affecting our bodies through microplastic ingestion. World Environment Day 2025 calls for collective action to address this.
So, how can you help to beat plastic pollution?
The World Environment Day campaign aims to highlight real-world solutions to inspire people, businesses, industries and governments to embrace sustainable practices that drive lasting change.
It’s suggested that a comprehensive circular economy approach would offer a sustainable path forward, potentially reducing the volume of plastics entering oceans by over 80%, saving governments a massive $70 billion over 20 years.
It has been shown that recycling is not enough, with around 21% of plastic currently economically recyclable, and only a small proportion – estimated at 9% - being recycled globally.
Therefore, we must rethink our use of plastics. Manufacturing plastic products designed to be used more than once – and recycled at the end of their life – could be part of the solution, but in order for this to work, all stakeholders would need to be on board to drive this transition.
How we do things at Bliss
At Bliss, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact and continually improving sustainability as part of our core business practices – underpinned by comprehensive sustainability policies including Virtual Office Stewardship – while encouraging others to do the same. B Corp Certified, we are a business that meets the high standards of social and environmental impact, transparency, and accountability, using business as a force for good.
We believe small adjustments to our everyday routines can collectively make a big impact, such as rethinking our consumption of single-use plastics and choosing more sustainable alternatives in our daily work and lives. In previous years, we’ve shared tips with each other around reducing our plastic usage during Plastic Free July – another great initiative that we look forward to again this year.
